the Artist ...
Arlene
is a first generation American gal.
Her parents immigrated from Scotland while in
their twenties.
Her father was an accomplished artist but,
like Arlene, did not choose art as a vocation.
At a young age, Arlene’s
parents recognized her artistic ability.
Some say the culminating event was when she
painted an elaborate “for sale” sign and put it
on her sister’s bike in the front yard.
Others consider
this just a rumor started by a younger brother.

Either way, she had her parents’ attention.
They decided to start her training right away with
some lessons in oil painting. It
has been suggested this was a ploy to get her out of
the house. Again,
others consider this just mere gossip.
Private and semi-private painting lessons
continued throughout her childhood.
She flourished in her artistic ability and
interests. When
Arlene was 11 years old, she had her first showing
of oil paintings at the Queen Mary in Long Beach,
CA. She
worked primarily in oils
until she became
a student of noted watercolorist, Linda L.
Moyer, NWS, WW.
Time progressed, Arlene married, had a child
and in the interim moved, via stints in Las Vegas
and Phoenix, to Nashville.
Loving
all forms of art, she has dabbled in acrylics,
colored pencil, pen & ink, more water colors,
and pastels.
Some of it
inspirational … some of it crap.
Such is the way of life.
